History

English

Back in 1860, the great-grandfather Francesco, a shoemaker by profession, bought some parcels of land in Valerisce giving rise to Azienda Agricola Simon Komjanc.

The father’s work continued with his son Giuseppe, supported by the wife Anna Kodermac and their eight children. The second born, also named Giuseppe, chose to be a farmer and stayed at the family farm while the other children went on to study for different professions: a qualified nurse, a professor of literature, a priest, a pilot and Lieutenant, a pharmacist, and a medical doctor.

In 1970s, fruit growing and livestock farming were abandoned for lack of profitability and the farm was dedicated entirely to wine growing.

The farm is now run by Evgen Komjanc who can rely on the help of his father Simon, both passionately committed to farm work and determined to continue the hundred-year old tradition of the winery.

The tradition of the family is connected not only to farming but also to upholding the community by promoting cultural activity. Our ancestors knew how to make good wine but they were also aware of the importance of building associations, which is why the Komjanc family always readily takes part in the numerous local events (Likof, Festival of San Floriano, theatre, art exhibitions, sporting events, and others).

The farm currently stretches on an area of 22 hectares with vineyards covering 11 hectares of this area and producing on average 600 hectolitres of wine a year. The varieties we produce are Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Traminer among white wines and Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet-Franc of the red wines.

The cultivation of grapes and all other tasks up to wine bottling are carried out in a very traditional way to make sure that the final product is excellent. The farm has its own point of sale in the town of Gorizia, in Via Duca D’Aosta where for the last 35 years buyers can find all of our wines to meet even the most demanding requests. You can visit the farm and the winery at any time by making appointment on the phone beforehand.

Azienda Simon Komjanc feels greatly rewarded by the satisfaction of its clients and cherishes the numerous partners and friends all over Europe and the rest of the world.
